Live the Satoyama,
Grow Together as a Family.
Five days of living, learning, and belonging in Kyoto Keihoku — a gentle family immersion shaped by forest wisdom, local community, and shared meals.
📅 24-28 Nov
📍 Keihoku, 1hour drive from Kyoto City

It's not a tour.
It’s a Shared living experience
Keihoku is one of the few places in Japan where the traditional relationship between people, nature, and community still shapes everyday life.
For more than a thousand years, while Kyoto flourished as Japan’s cultural capital, Keihoku quietly supported the city from its surrounding mountains and forests. Today, not only its landscapes remain, but also a way of living rooted in mutual care, local community, and deep respect for nature.
During five days here — including time spent with local families and a homestay — guests are invited not simply to visit rural Japan, but to experience a slower rhythm of life that feels surprisingly familiar.

Three ways to Immerse
In Keihoku, the ancient rhythms of rural Japan are still very much alive. This program is shaped around three forms of learning — from the forest, from the community, and from the land.

Kyoto was built from these mountains — cedar cut and hauled down for temple beams, teahouse pillars, the frames of ordinary houses. The saws are quieter now, but the way of living they shaped is not. Guests walk the same forest paths and meet the people who still carry that knowledge forward — in wood, water, and the seasons.

Play comes first, words come later. Handmade nameplates, traditional games — by the time dinner arrives, the local kids and yours don't need a shared language anymore, just a shared game. A day spent inside the village, not alongside it.

"Itadakimasu" isn't quite "let's eat." It's closer to "I receive this life." Miso worked by hand from spring water and soybeans. Mochi pounded in a wooden mortar. Sweet potatoes dug from the field and roasted over the campfire. The last night, everyone gathers around the same hot-pot. Local ingredients, home cooking, shared meals — a way of life rooted in gratitude and the rhythms of nature.
